Self-Guided Farm
Visit
Appropriate
for all ages.
Explore
the 18th century Farm at your own pace. Follow the brochure
map to different points of interest including the tobacco house,
the farmhouse, areas where livestock are kept, the kitchen garden
and the orchard. Along the way, you will encounter members of the
farm family going about their daily chores. Don't be shy! The farmer
and his family will be happy to stop their work to tell you about
what they are doing and answer your questions about life on a colonial
farm. If you want to, pitch right in and help with the chores. A
complete walking tour of the Farm is approximately 3/4 of a mile.
Self-guided Farm visits
are available anytime the Farm is open (Wednesday through Sunday,
10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., from April through mid-December). Reservations
are not required, but if you have a group of 10 or more, please
call us in advance to let us know you are coming. The phone number
is 703-442-7557.

Welcome to the
18th century!
To get the most
out of your visit, consider the following...
- You are stepping back in time to the year 1771.
- The farm family that you see are like actors, playing the part
of a 1771 family. They will stay in character, and
invite you to do the same-- to step back in time with them.
- You will be treated as a new friend or neighbor who is dropping
by to visit.
- The farm family members do not really live here (though they
will tell you they do!), but they do all the farm work just as
it would have been done in 1771.
- The farm family enjoys visitors, and is eager to talk to you.
Please ask questions and get involved!
