Educational/Interpretive Program Assistant
New! Position available
for late summer / early fall
The Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey
Run seeks an intern interested in developing and presenting
Educational/Interpretive Programs at a living history museum.
The Claude Moore Colonial Farm portrays family life on a small,
low-income farm just prior to the Revolutionary War. This privately
operated National Park, located just outside of Washington,
DC, has served more than one million visitors during its 30
years of operation. The Farm educates the public about the history
of American agriculture through visitors' active participation
and involvement in the eighteenth-century farm site and associated
educational programs.
Specific duties may include:
- Present educational programs to visiting school-aged groups
and serve as an historical interpreter on the 18th century farm
site.
- Complete an agriculturally-oriented research project that will
contribute to the Farm's educational programs. The project will
culminate in either a written report, an on-line article, the
development of an educational activity, or the creation of a reproduction
artifact.
- Portray life on the 1771 tenant farm as a first-person character,
which includes interacting with the public and performing farm
tasks in period costume and in a variety of weather conditions.
- Supervise volunteers in accomplishing the above tasks.
