Horticulture Program Assistant
The Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey
Run seeks an intern interested in horticulture at a living history
museum. The Horticulture Program produces plants for use
on the historic site and for sale to the public.
The Claude Moore Colonial Farm portrays family life on a small,
low-income farm just prior to the Revolutionary War. This privately
operated National Park, located just outside of Washington, DC,
has served more than one million visitors during its 35 years of
operation. The Farm educates the public about the history of American
agriculture through visitors' active participation and involvement
in the eighteenth-century farm site and associated educational programs.
Specific duties will include:
- Help manage a small production greenhouse facility (3 greenhouses
totaling 1150 sq. ft. with 14 x 28 attached head house) to
produce the plants for both the historic site and for sale
to the public.
- Work with sales, display and marketing in new garden sales
area.
- Maintain custom propagation database in Access and update
authored plants in Horticopia Professional software.
- Supervise volunteers in accomplishing the above tasks.
Commitment:
One full or two part-time internships are
available for the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters.
Compensation:
Interns will be paid a salary stipend. The
salary will be treated as income to the intern, subject to FICA and income taxes.
