A visit to the Claude Moore Colonial Farm is a visit to another world ...the world of an 18th Century family living on a small,
low-income farm just prior to the Revolutionary War.

The year is 1771 ... won't you come and visit?

Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities at the Claude Moore Colonial Farm. The Farm has only a small professional staff, and we could not provide the array of programs we do without the help of volunteers. We welcome volunteers of all ages, alone or in groups, and can schedule hours during days, evenings, and weekends, depending on the type of volunteer job and staff availability. Some take-home work is also available.

Before you come for the first time, call us at (703) 442-7557 or e-mail us to schedule an appointment. We need to plan for your volunteer activity. Volunteers need to fill out the Volunteer Guild Information and Registration Form. This form includes necessary personal and emergency information. A parent/guardian signature is required for any youth under the age of 18 years.

18th Century Volunteers

 The Colonial Company:

After completing the required training, volunteers may join the Colonial Company and portray 18th-century merchants, traders, cooks, musicians and others at the Farm's Market Fairs, or members of the "farm family" on the farm site. Special branches of the Colonial Company include the Colonial Singers and Dancers, the Puppet Theater, and the Apprentice Program.

The Apprentice Program:
Through the Apprentice Program, youth volunteers age 10 - 17 dress in period clothing and portray colonial children for the Farm's visitors, both on the farm site and at the Market Fairs. Apprentices may also participate in behind-the-scenes support work. An annual program fee applies. All new Apprentices must apply to the program, and if accepted, they must attend the Orientation in late March.
